Earlybird

Yep, we’re gonna get a jump on ‘em. At least the big box stores wait until October to put out their Holiday stuff… Not us baby. By October, our Early Bird Special will be all be history!

Grab your calendars and pick a date – September 27th, 28th or 29th. Now, fire up your e-mail or dash to the phone and give us call to lock in your date. Your $200 session fee will include 50 photo cards or an 11×14 wall portrait. Or better yet, book your session by August 31st and get the cards AND the wall portrait. Looks like we’re giving the presents out early too…

Is it Tuesday Already?

Calling All Chairs…

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

Okay, we admit it… we’ve got a thing for old furniture (and the funkier the better…) We’ve always got our eye out for that cool old chair or bench (we’ve bought about all the sofas we can handle right now) and then we thought, "hey, we’ve given away lots of furniture we didn’t need any more… maybe some of our friends have some that they’re looking to get rid of."

So, here’s the deal. Take a look around and if you run across a chair (we’re thinking like living room kinda things… unless you’ve got a really cool wooden chair or rocker…) or other piece of furniture (an old trunk, coffe or end table) snap a picture of it and slip it in an e-mail to us. If it strikes our fancy, we’re gonna hook up the trailer, swing by your place, snatch it up and give you a free session… you’re happy, we’re happy… everybody’s happy! So muster up your courage and forage around in your garage or basement or attic and see what ya got!

A Walk Down Memory Lane

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

We had a great time with Kelsey and her family on Friday. We went from the studio, through the traffic to old town Fredericksburg and back out to Hartwood to plop a beautiful couch down in the middle of a field… yep, we do things a little differenter out here in the country.

Kelsey found us through a friend we had done a shoot for a few weeks earlier (oh yeah, be sure to spread the word… tell everyone you know about your favorite little photo studio out in Hartwood…) We were looking to get some more shots from old town, and wouldn’t you know it, her favorite restuarant just happens to be there. I also heard rumors that she took her turn at the wheel of the riverboat way back when.

Her mom, dad and sister couldn’t have been nicer (her dad went and got her dinner during the shoot and carted a couch all over Hartwood!) We sure hope they had as much fun with us as we did with them.

Halftime

Friday, August 17th, 2007

Okay, now that the coach has seen it, I can pop it up here.

Mvfb

We did a shoot with some of the guys from the Mountain View High School Varsity football team. Coach Cooke was great and really excited about the shoot. We spent the morning with the guys on the last day before the real practices began (coach said they wouldn’t be in much of a mood to take pictures once the real practices started!) We were thrilled to get a chance to do some shots with some of the guys at the school… the girls all seem to want to get pictures, but the guys are a little more reluctant… until they spend some time with us and see that it’s not nearly as horrible as they expected. From the reception I got when we showed up for the second part of the shoot later that night, I think they had a good time too.

We didn’t end up using any of those shots because as Wen was getting some test shots and I was stringing an extension cord through the fence to power the smoke machine, the sprinkler system on the field cranked up! I outran the coaches as we grabbed the various equipment as the sprinklers closed in on us. We went with the backup plan, but we knew we had this shot already in the can. I dropped off one for each of the guys yesterday, so we’ll post some reactions in the next couple of days. The coaches all saw it and loved it. Huge thanks to Kevin Beach for giving us the heads up these guys… but more about that later.

Have a great season guys… we’ll be at the games to cheer you on!

Wanna Help a Kid?

Friday, August 10th, 2007

Here’s your chance. We’re going to have a table at a charity event for the Stafford County Foster Children Program. It’s Thursday night, August 23 from 6 – 9 at Bogey’s in Central Park. There is a suggested donation of $5 at the door and the proceeds go toward sending the kids to King’s Dominion for a day (apparently the trip is in jeopardy due to funding issues…) Each vendor is giving away two door prizes, so you might even win a free photo session. This is a very last minute event (we just found out about it yesterday) but an extremely worthwhile cause. We are currently noodling through some ideas about how we could get really involved with this program. We would love to have everyone come out to support this cause and we’d love to have you stop by the table and say hello… see you there?

Hangin’ Out in the Land of Lincoln, eh

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

Okay, before we begin this post, let me say thanks to everyone who has recently checked out our blog (which from the stats we’ve received, is well over 200 in the first two days!!) Please check back regularly, as keeping it updated is one of my job responsibilities… also, please leave comments so that we know you’re keeping up with us… c’mon, show us some love. And be sure to tell all of your friends too… Okay, commercial is over, now back to the regularly scheduled post already in progress…

We spent an amazing couple of days kibitzing with a very cool group of photographers from around the country and even one from The Great White North. (can you find me and Wen’ in the photos?) We saw some incredible work, received lots of encouraging words, ate way too much great food, drank our share of our favorite beverages (I can’t even get Belhaven around here!) and I even found time for a couple of cigars. Special thanks goes out to D.J. who almost missed his plane because we were so busy sharing stories that gave each other goose bumps… it was truly that kind of trip.

Here are a couple of images from a shoot we took part in… oh yeah, and I’m pretty sure that my official job title is now SHERPA…

If you haven’t seen our studio yet (or even if you have) give us call and drop by sometime… we’re having a blast!
